Reducing Pollution to the River Cole

At Cole Bank Park and Meriden Park we have created two Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) as part of our Love Your River Cole project, which will help reduce the flow of pollutants into the River Cole and reduce the risk of flooding. By doing this, more wildlife will be able to thrive in and around the river, and the parks will be a more attractive place to visit.

SuDS work by mimicking natural drainage systems to slow flow of water and increase the water capacity of an area. This means there is less chance of flooding and fewer pollutants running into the river.

We worked with local contractors to build the SuDS and our Tame Force volunteers planted up the area after the building work was completed.

We also reprofiled the River Cole at Cole Bank Park, helping to reconnect the river with its floodplain and improve its flow.

Through these improvements we aim to make the River Cole and its surrounding area a better place for people and wildlife, creating habitats and improving access to nature.
